Organic Basics was founded in Denmark in 2015 and has been part of Delta Galil Industries since being acquired in 2022. Today, Organic Basics continues to be led by co-founders Mads Fibiger and Alexander Christiansen from Copenhagen, remains a certified B Corporation™, and maintains independently verified product certifications including GOTS, GRS, OCS and RWS. Wherever possible, the information below links directly to something you can check for yourself.

How it started

We started with a simple mission: to offer more sustainable alternatives to everyday underwear. Our first Kickstarter campaign launched with men's underwear, and it didn't take long for our community to ask for women's styles too. From there, we grew into the brand we are today.

Growth and acquisition

In 2022, Organic Basics was acquired by Delta Galil Industries, a global apparel manufacturer. Becoming part of Delta Galil gave us the resources and experience to grow internationally, particularly across Europe and the US, and to expand beyond our original underwear offering into more everyday essentials.

Organic Basics today

Today, Organic Basics continues to operate under its own name from Copenhagen, led by co-founders Mads Fibiger (CEO) and Alexander Christiansen (COO). Our sustainability commitments are written into our Articles of Association, and our certification and audit standards have continued since the acquisition, with several expanding over time.

We remain a certified B Corporation, our certifications are independently audited, and our factory list is public. We believe you should be able to see what sits behind the claims we make.

What Delta Galil has helped enable

  • Higher production capability. Greater scale gives us access to better sourcing expertise, stronger quality control and more leverage to hold suppliers to high standards.
  • Sustained R&D focus. We have more capacity to invest in product development, testing, and improvements with a longer-term view.
  • More frequent factory audits. Local and third-party audits now happen more frequently, checking compliance with labor and environmental standards.
  • More accessible prices. Making certified products accessible has been part of our goal from the beginning — the kind of scale we have now is what makes it possible.

What hasn't changed

  • Certifications are product-level, independently verified annually. Product certifications including GOTS (certificate GOTS-20447) and GRS, OCS and RWS (certified by Control Union, CU 1067589) are renewed through annual audits. Check them in the public GOTS database and at textileexchange.org.
  • Design is in Copenhagen. Our team continues to design from our Copenhagen office at Struenseegade 15A, Copenhagen N. Impressum.
  • Our factory list is public. We publish information about the factories we work with, including their location, workforce and output: factory pages.
  • Our impact data is public. Third-party LCA data from Made2Flow is published on our product pages, and we report on progress and missed targets in our annual impact report.
  • 1% for the Planet. We donate 1% of annual sales to support environmental initiatives around the world — our profile.
  • Certified B Corporation. B Corps are companies certified by B Lab against standards for social and environmental impact, transparency and accountability. Our current B Impact Score is 115 — our highest to date, independently verified by B Lab. Find us listed under DG Organic Basics ApS.

Questions people ask

Is Organic Basics still designed in Copenhagen?

Yes. Our design team is based in Copenhagen, where Organic Basics continues to be led by co-founders Mads Fibiger and Alexander Christiansen.

Are the products still GOTS-certified?

Many are. We prioritize products made with at least 70% organic cotton and aim to certify eligible products to GOTS or OCS. We also make GRS-certified products using at least 50% recycled materials, alongside products made with TENCEL™ Lyocell and other fibers. You can check every product page and label for GOTS or other certifications, and the exact material composition. Our certifications are independently audited by Control Union (CU 1067589), and GOTS-certified products can be checked in the public GOTS database. (TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.)

Who is Delta Galil?

Delta Galil is a global apparel company specializing in intimates and activewear. Founded in 1975, it is headquartered in Caesarea, Israel and New York, USA, with offices, factories and retail locations around the world. It designs and manufactures apparel through its own brands — including Organic Basics, Schiesser, 7 For All Mankind and Splendid — as well as for other global brands, employing around 25,000 people worldwide.

Has the product changed since 2022?

Our assortment has grown, but our approach to product development hasn't: we use customer feedback to improve fit, quality and design every year, and many of our organic cotton bestsellers remain in the collection. Exact composition, certification and impact data for each product are on its product page.

Does Delta Galil's ownership affect how Organic Basics is run?

No. Mads Fibiger and Alexander Christiansen are the registered directors of DG Organic Basics ApS in the Danish Business Authority's CVR register, making the day-to-day decisions across design, product and sustainability from Copenhagen. Certifications are held at product level — GOTS (certificate GOTS-20447), and GRS, OCS and RWS via Control Union (CU 1067589) — audited by independent bodies, not by either company.
