Basic knitwear in cotton, and some in wool

Our knitwear is mostly cotton: jumpers, cardigans, knitted trousers, beanies, sleeveless knits, scarves, shorts, skirts and a couple of dresses. A few styles are knitted from 50% wool instead.

What is the difference between a jumper and a cardigan here?

A jumper goes over your head and a cardigan opens down the front, and that is the whole of it — the knits themselves overlap. The True Knit Sweater is a boxy, slightly cropped jumper in 100% cotton; the cardigans run from a fitted slim cut to a heavy chunky knit in the same fabrics.

Gauge, and why it decides what you buy

A fine knit drapes and layers under a coat. A chunky knit holds its own shape and works as the outer layer. Everything else — crew neck, V-neck, high neck, cropped or long — is preference, but the gauge is what makes a knit useful in October rather than in December.

The cotton knits

The cotton styles run from 100% cotton in the True Knit pieces down to blends made for stretch and recovery. The Soft Knit Straight Leg Pants, for instance, are 70% cotton with 20% recycled polyester and 10% nylon. Knitted bottoms behave differently from woven ones: they give as you move rather than holding a crease.

The wool knits

The wool styles are 50% wool. Wool springs back where cotton relaxes, which is why the two feel different after a day's wear even at the same gauge.

Where the other knits live

Our cardigans and sweaters have their own pages, and the knit accessories cover the beanies and scarves. Our materials page explains how we choose the fibres.

Sizing, and how to wash a knit

Nearly every style comes in XS to XL, with XXS on most styles and XXL and XXXL on some. Wash cold and dry flat rather than on a line, and give the wool styles the gentlest cycle you have.
